In your glass: Hampshire Ales, Great Wines and the Finest Spirits
The Chequers stocks some fantastic local ales. Why not try our robust brews from the Hogs Back Brewery, or the beautifully crafted Hampshire ales from the family-run Andwell Brewing on tap? Alongside these we have St Austell Tribute, Sharp’s Doombar and Old Hooky from the Hook Norton Brewery.
The pub has a good wine list, featuring wines from small, award-winning producers, with knowledgeable people behind the bar and thoughtfully written tasting notes to help you choose.
For the summer, we have the Sancerre Rosé 2011, Andre Dezat et Fils, Loire France, is a dry, light and strawberry scented wine that makes for idyllic sunny day drinking, whilst the Finca los Primos Malbec 2012, Valentin Bianchi Argentina with its rich, weighty feel and soft silkiness is a perfect partner for a steak. There’s an impressive list of vodkas, aperitifs and cocktails, as well as ‘grand gins’, a selection of uncommonly good gins in large measures, served in a grand coupe with plenty of ice, fruit and juniper berries.
